WHAT WE GOT FOR CHRISTMAS

Maria:

I am so happy with what I received this Christmas from my loved ones and am very thankful. The last few years, I’ve had three Christmases. One at my moms house, one at my dads house and one with my boyfriends family. As crazy busy as it is, I love spending that special time with each of them. I’m not going to name every single thing that i’ve received as gifts, but I am going to list a few of my favorites for you guys 🙂

The first gift that I opened this year was before Christmas. My boyfriend bought me a bookshelf and wanted me to open it at our apartment instead of bringing it all the way home. I was so excited! I seriously asked him for a bookshelf for a year. With the shelf, he got me four books that I had on my wish list: Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire and the Assassins Blade by Sarah J. Maas and Captivated by You by Sylvia Day. It was really fun putting the bookshelf together and setting up all of my pretty books with my love.

I went to visit my mom first this year. My main gifts from her were a Keurig and a rice cooker. I was so excited when I opened them on Christmas morning and have been addicted to making coffee and cappuccinos ever since.

My dad earned some golden stars when he got me a Sephora gift card for Christmas. I don’t know how he got that idea, but I loved it! As soon as I got back to the city I went makeup shopping.

Mallory:
I got unbelievably spoiled this year from my family and boyfriend. My parents are Christmas crazy and they go all out to make sure we have an amazing year every time.

From my sisters and brothers I got a huge goodie bag of East Coast Lifestyle swag. Hats, socks, a sweater, tank tops, shirts, stickers, a bracelet. It was crazy! But I love it. Gotta love representing the East Coast! From my little sister I also got the CUTEST crazy cat lady journal. It’s hilarious but its adorable and I am in love with it.

From my mom I got some new fitness clothes, a gym bag, some pjs, and two new rings. She got me a white gold chevron ring which is absolutely stunning, as well as my birthstone (which is blue topaz) in a white gold setting. So grateful.

From my dad I got an iPad mini! Was not expecting it at all and I was shocked. Along with that he got me a beautiful Kate Spade cover for it. He also gave me some visa gift cards as well as a Chapters gift card.

From my boyfriend I got a new Fossil purse. It it gorgeous and exactly the one that I wanted. He also got me a  6-pack meal prep lunch bag but it was almost bigger than me so I am going to try and find the three meal bag instead. And to top it off he gave me gift cards to Lululemon and Nike.

I couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas. I am going to school at the end of January for personal training and a lot of these things are going to be great for school!

In no way was this a way to brag about what we received. Honestly we are nosey and love to know what others got for Christmas so we thought you might like to know too!

10329054_10152719820813778_4140244513598827753_nThe last few weeks have been crazy busy with Christmas. I was really lucky to spend so much time with my family over the holidays, but didn’t have much time for reading. December is probably one of the worst months when it comes to reading slumps. Here is what I managed to read in the month of December (three of which are comic books) :

1. Earth 2, Vol.1: The Gathering by Robinson James ★★★
2. Bloodlines by Richelle Mead ★★★★
3. The Evolution of Mara Dyer ★★★★
4. The Retribution of Mara Dyer ★★★★
5. Maybe Not (Maybe 1.5) by Colleen Hoover ★★★★★
6. Deathstroke (2014) #1 by Daniel Tony S ★★★
7. Deathstroke (2014) #2 by Daniel Tony S ★★★
8. My True Love Gave to Me by various authors ★★★★
9. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer ★★★★★
10. Written in Red by Anne Bishop ★★★★★

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Let me know how your reading went in the month of december in the comments below!

STORM DAY READS – OH THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL

Maria’s storm day reads:

Storm days are perfect for curling up in your warmest Christmas blanket and getting lost in a great book!

When it’s freezing out, and snowing, and you don’t want to leave your house at all, I suggest picking a book that is short enough to finish in 24 hours (or at least that you will be able to read a big chunk of).

Old favorites are always great for stormy days as well. Maybe you’ve been meaning to re-read a some Harry Potter, maybe it’s been so long that you’ve started forgetting things that happened in the hunger games series, maybe you’ve been craving to pick up your favorite childhood read…

Screen Shot 2014-12-10 at 10.34.38 PM

1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. (yeah I wasn’t kidding. I actually have forgotten quite a bit…)

2. The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate (I think this would be a really great middle-grade read)

3. Shadows (Lux #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout (novellas are also fast storm-day reads!)

4. Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover (an other novella that I will be reading very soon)

Mallory’s storm day reads:

Okay so I went a little different route than Maria. When I think of storm days I want those huge chunky books that I can escape into for hours and not worry about anything else around me.

1. A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. These books are beasts but once you start you can’t stop. You will seriously want a few full days for these books.
2. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Not only this but the whole series is just so warming and adorable. I read this a stormy night in November while missing my boyfriend and it did the trick taking my mind off things.
3. The Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Because if you haven’t heard of Daemon Black yet, what’s wrong with you?
4. The Tiger’s Saga by Colleen Houck. Because not one hot man, but two! Mm.

5. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. Because what was I just saying about hot men? Mmmm.
6. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Rowell is the queen of feel good, cute, fluffy and light hearted reads. Her books will keep you smiling.
7. Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. This is probably in my top three favorite books of ALL TIME. Such a great story and take on zombies. Go read it!
8. The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. This is as equally amazing as The Song of Ice and Fire series. A high fantasy that will keep you on your toes and intrigued from beginning to end.

9. The Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer. Because not one hot man, not two hot men, but four! Oh boy, swoons all around.
10. The Pretty Little Liars series by Sara Shepard. Because honestly, these are so damn addicting and quick to read, you are going to want to binge read the entire series.

We hope you enjoyed our choices! Let us know what your storm day reads would be!

MARIA’S #12DAYSOFBOOKMAS READATHON TBR

10846780_10152837584945465_1444511147_nThe Twelve Days of Christmas is a readathon taking place on INSTAGRAM the 12th to the 23rd of december. The lovely hosts are listed on the picture if you would like to check them out.

I really like that this readathon is going to be twelve days long. It will be a great way to get a few extra books read before the new year (it’s going to be here before we know it!) Plus, I love BOOKSTAGRAM, so I am looking forward to taking some fun christmas book photos and sharing my updates with you on there. Since this is being hosted on Instagram, I won’t be doing daily blog readathon updates here, but you can check out our Instagram if you would like to know how I am doing.

This is what I plan on reading until the 23rd:
Screen Shot 2014-12-11 at 8.53.50 AM

It will be busy for me with exams until the 16th, but when those are over with I will read read read as much as I can until the 23rd! Goodluck to all participants! We decided to do a little something non book related for you guys today. This is the start to our holiday posts and we hope you guys enjoy!

Maria’s Holiday Playlist:
Okay guys, no judging. This is my actual Christmas playlist that I’ve been listening to for the past month. I typically listen to a mixture of pop and country Christmas music, so if you don’t like that, well that sucks, and if you do then you can add these to your Christmas playlist.

Sleigh Ride – Karmin
Last Christmas – Ariana Grande
Carol of the Bells – Pentatonix
O come, O come Emmanuel – Pentatonix
This Christmas – Pentatonix
A Country Boy for Christmas – Kira Isabella
Let it Snow – Lady Antebellum
I’ll Be Home for Christmas – Blake Shelton
White Christmas – Micheal Bublé
I’ll Be Home With Bells On – Dolly Parton
Run Run Rudolph – Johnny Reid
The First Noël – Carrie Underwood

Mallory’s Holiday Playlist:
So I’m not going to lie, I’m not a huge fan of Christmas music. It’s so repetitive and it’s always the same song. So my list is going to be just a couple of Christmas songs along with the other music I’ve been obsessing over and will be playing this holiday. I like a mixture of ALL music so enjoy ❤

Oh Santa – Mariah Carey
All You Had to Do Was Stay – Taylor Swift
Wild for the Night – A$AP Rockey, Skrillex & Birdy Nam Nam
Hold On, I’m Going Home (Cover) – Lights
Feelings – Maroon 5
Carol of the Bells – Pentatonix
Love Me Again – John Newman
Santa Clause Lane – Hilary Duff
I’ve Rationed Well – July Talk
Supersonic – Oasis
Budapest – George Ezra
Smoke Rings – Royal Tusk
