FRIDAY READS (#20)

It’s finally the weekend again!

It has been a crazy busy week for me. With getting back to the gym, business and resume classes, job interviews, it’s been hectic.

Tonight is my last class for the week and then it will definitely be time to indulge in some binge reading.

10025305I’m currently four chapters into Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare, the second book in the Infernal Devices series. You can click here to find it on Goodreads. I am really enjoying this series so far. I just finished Clockwork Angel and my review will be coming up for that soon so make sure you keep an eye out for that.

8755776Next on my list to read is City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare. Going back to the Mortal Instruments series, this is the fifth book in the series. You can click here to find it on Goodreads. I’m so excited to get back into this series and to figure out what my main man Jace is up to.

Other than that I don’t have much else planned. I’m in the mood where I want to read every single book in the world right now so I have no idea what I’m going to pick up next!

I hope everyone has a great weekend, let me know what you are reading this weekend!

CREATURE FEATURE (#1) – WEREWOLVES

So today begins our weekly Creature Feature for the month of October. And I decided to start out with werewolves since I haven’t really read that many werewolf books.

werewolf

So the first werewolf I would like to mention is Remus Lupin from the Harry Potter series.

5
We first meet Remus in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when he becomes the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and from there on I believe he became a favorite character of most. He is definitely a good guy werewolf who becomes like a father to Harry. He was caring and was constantly putting others before himself. He was absolutely my favorite werewolf to ever read about.

I’m sure by now most of you have read the Harry Potter series by now but if you haven’t then I envy you. I would love to be able to read this series for the first time all over again.

Secondly we have Lucas Ross from Shadow Falls. I mostly love Lucas just cause he is a bad ass with a snarky attitude. He is jealous and protective over Kylie, but not too much that it becomes annoying. He is the only thing that is saving this series for me right now.

Third we have Alcide Herveaux from the Sookie Stackhouse series.
Alcide is another good guy werewolf who shows up in the third book in the series Club Dead. He is an amazing friend to Sookie and is constantly helping her out.

And let’s be honest, in the tv show he is played by Joe Manganiello who is quite nice on the eyes.

And last on my list I have Luke Garroway/Lucian Graymark from the Mortal Instruments series. He is Clary’s mom’s boyfriend and is always there when needed. He seems like a very sweet man and I can’t wait to learn more about him as the series goes on.

Now for the werewolf books that I have not read but am planning to in the future.

First up is the Nightshade series by Andrea Cremer. This is a very popular young adult series and it has been on my TBR for a long time now. I’m not sure what is even taking me so long. Also would like to point out how beautiful these covers are.

Second is the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. Allison gave me the first book Moon Called a couple years back and it has been sitting unread on my shelf for too long.

And last is the Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. I also own the first two books in this series and they have been unread for a long time as well.

Well after writing this I’ve come to realize I never read about werewolves and maybe its time that I should start reading more.

Do you guys have any other werewolf suggestions for me? If only Teen Wolf was a series, I would be so in love.

MARIA’S AUGUST WRAP UP + SEPTEMBER TBR

1. Taken at Dusk (Shadow Falls 3) – C.C. Hunter ★★★★

An enjoyable read. I had high expectations after loving the first book in this series, but I’m not finding the other ones quite as great. Hoping number 4 will be better. This book did get alot more interesting towards the end and things are finally starting to come together – so I did end up giving the 4 stars.

2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter 7) – J.K. Rowling ★★★★★

This would have to be one of my favorites of the series! I loved every minute of it.

3. This is What Happy Looks Like – Jennifer E. Smith ★★★★

Cute, happy contemporary. I really had fun reading this!

4. Obsidian (Lux 1) – Jennifer Armentrout ★★★★★

Fun and addicting! I picked this up randomly and am loving this series so much!

5. What I Thought Was True – Huntley Fitzpatrick ★★★★

Huntley Fitzpatricks books never disappoint me! I really loved reading this. One of my favorite books of the summer. I want to give this the full 5 stars, but there were a few minor things that bugged me.

6. Before I Go To Sleep – S.J Watson ★★★★★

This was surprisingly an amazing read for me! I read it in one sitting- staying up way to late. I couldn’t put it down. So much suspence!

7. The Murder Complex – Lindsay Cummings ★★★

I wish i wouldn’t have had such high expectations for this one. I enjoyed reading it, but it didn’t stand out like I thought it would.

8. Onyx (Lux 2) – Jennifer Armentrout ★★★★

Great second book of the series! Falling even more in love with the characters.

9. Anna and the French Kiss – Stephanie Perkins ★★★★
Really great contemporary read! Looking forward to reading Stephanie Perkins other books.

10. Spirit Bound – Richelle Mead ★★★★
So happy to have gotten back into this series! I loved reading about Rose again. She is such a great book character. I just love her.

11. The Last Sacrifice – Richelle Mead ★★★★★
This was the perfect conclusion in my opinion. I devoured this book!

12. Opal (Lux 3) – Jennifer Armentrout ★★★★

Once again – the lux series continues to be my number one series at the moment. I LOVE THESE BOOKS.

September TBR

September for me means back to university! Unlike my past years in school, I will also be working this year – so I hope to find just as much time for reading. I think I have a pretty good schedule this fall to make it work, but we will see.

1. The Spectacular Now – Tim Tharp

2. Just One Day – Gayle Forman

3. The Giver – Lois Lowry

4. Whispers at Moonrise – C.C Hunter

5. Origin – Jennifer Armentrout

6. Opposition – Jennifer Armentrout

7. Clockwork Angel – Cassandra Clare

8. Lola and the Boy Next Door – Stephanie Perkins

9. Succubus Blues – Richelle Mead

10. Every Day – David Levithan

11. Bloodlines – Richelle Mead

These are just some books that I would love to be able to read RIGHT NOW. They could change, but I am going to do my best to stick to it.

MALLORY’S AUGUST WRAP UP + SEPTEMBER TBR

Well August didn’t go quite as I planned it. I was on vacation for the last week and got absolutely no reading done. But I still managed to read 15 books in total.

Books I read in August:
1. Taken At Dusk by C.C. Hunter ★★★★
This was one of my monthly reads with Maria and hopefully we will have a full review up soon.
2. City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare ★★★★
The fourth book in the Mortal Instruments series. Not quite as good as the third, but still a great read and continuation of the story.
3. The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer ★★★★★
One of my favourite reads of the month. I have done a full review and you can find it here: https://readsbymandm.wordpress.com/2014/08/19/book-review-the-wishing-spell-by-chris-colfer/
4. Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett ★★★★
Another great installation in the Discworld series, this time about witches instead of wizards. Really starting to adore Pratchett’s quirky and snarky writing style.
5. Club Dead by Charlaine Harris ★★★★
The third book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I was totally craving this since I have been watching True Blood lately and they are a little bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.
6. Blood Red Road by Moira Young ★★★★
Closer to a 3.5 for this one. I enjoyed it but I’m not too sure when I will continue on with the series.
7. Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout ★★★★
I was so totally in the mood for this one, out of the blue I just HAD to pick it up and I am so glad that I did. I’m very happy to be back in this series and I never want it to end.
8. Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight ★★★
A great story line, fast paced and super intriguing but a solid build up to a let down of an ending. So many things could have been done better with this one.
9. Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis ★★★★
Love the Chronicles of Narnia series, this one was much better than The Horse and His Boy. Can’t wait to continue on with the series.
10. Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson ★★★★
This was so so good, especially for a debut novel. It has your mind racing from chapter to chapter. It is very wonderfully written and I highly suggest picking this one up.
11. The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa ★★★★
I went into this one not remembering a single thing from the first book but I quite enjoyed it none the less. I will not wait as long to pick up the third book so I can actually remember what is happening.
12. Atonement by Ian McEwan ★★★
This may be one of those times that I enjoyed the movie a little more than the book. I found some parts to be very dull and I really dragged through. Other parts were beautifully written though and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
13. Allies of the Night by Darren Shan ★★★★★
As always, loved this book. This is the 8th book in the series and I am completely in love. I am dreading the end. Will do a full review once I have finished the series.
14. Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout ★★★★
I couldn’t resist picking this one up. I needed more Daemon in my life. Just as good as the rest.
15. The Lost World by Michael Crichton ★★★
This is the second book in the Jurassic Park series. I have a full review of this series coming soon.

Books I want to read in September:
1. Good Girl by Mary Kubica
2. Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
3. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
4. Whispers at Moonrise by C.C. Hunter
5. Horns by Joe Hill
6. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
7. The Giver by Lois Lowry
8. Carrie by Stephen King
9. The Soulstice by Simon Holt
10. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
11. The Templar Legacy by Steve Berry
12. When War Calls by Zy Rykoa
13. The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer
14. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
15. The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp
16. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
17. The Dinner by Herman Koch
18. Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente
19. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

Let me know how reading in August was for you and what you plan to read in September!
