#TBRTAKEDOWN READATHON VLOG

I’m happy to say that I had a successful Readathon week! The little vlogging that I did definitely kept me motivated to read more. What a great way to start the month of June! If you took part in the #TBRTakedown Readathon, I would love to hear how you did and what books you read. Leave me some love in the comments below!

MARIA’S #TBRTAKEDOWN READ-A-THON TBR

11348932_10153267815780465_1367828997_nHey readers! I just decided to participate in the TBR TAKE DOWN read-a-thon that is taking place this week, June 1-7th. I am going to do my best to stick to this TBR and knock out the 5 challenges below. I just started Clockwork Angel and am loving it, so I am hoping to marathon the Infernal Devices/Mortal Instruments series this month if possible. If you’re interested in participating, I would love to hear what you plan on reading. Following the challenges while making my TBR list was a lot harder than you’d think! CLICK HERE to watch Shannon’s read-a-thon announcement video

#TBRTAKEDOWN challenges:

1. A book that’s been on your TBR shelf over a year!

Forget you by Jennifer Echols. I don’t know why, but I can’t stand the small weird size of this book. It’s actually one of the reasons i’ve been putting it off… I’m terrible, I know.

2. An unread sequel sitting on your TBR shelf.
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare, because it’s about time I continue on with her series.

3. A first book in a series on your TBR shelf.
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare.

4. An “out of your comfort zone” book on le TBR shelf!
The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. It’s not that it’s really out of my “comfort zone”, but I really don’t read much middle grade and i’ve heard amazing things about this book.

5. A book from your most recent book haul!
Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting. Still in the new adult mood, so I hope it’s a good one!

MARIA’S #EASTERREADATHON UPDATE

Hey guys! I just wanted to let you all that I am participating in the Easter Read-A-Thon, hosted on Instagram by @Tulipreads @Zeilenverlieb @Booklovingjacky @Zeilensehnsucht @Zeilenzauberet. It will be going on from today, April 3rd, until Sunday, April 5th. I may bend the rules a little bit and count Monday as well, because I will be spending most of tomorrow and all day on Sunday with family.

22819890Today I read the last 50% of A Time to Reap (The Legend of Carter Gabel #1) by Jonas Lee. This book was sent to Mallory and I by the author in exchange for our honest reviews. I have to say, I really enjoyed this book a lot! A solid 4.5 stars for me. I don’t want to say too much just yet, as we will be posting our in depth reviews here on the blog. Just know that I am starting to fall in love the time traveling genre. It’s so interesting and cool!

After finishing that one, I decided to pick up Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. This is the book that Mallory, Marissa, Mackenzie and I chose to read and discuss in the month of April. Oh my goodness. I read this entire gem of a book in one sitting. My goal was to get to 50%, but from that point on – I just couldn’t put it down. Very real characters and a truly touching story. Everything that makes a book beautiful. I am so excited to see what my reading friends think of this one!

I am really happy with today’s reading, both books were very good! I am so grateful to have had the entire day to do nothing but read in my pyjamas. It will most likely be challenging to fit reading into the rest of my weekend, but that’s alright. I have no TBR and no specific number of books to complete. I just plan on reading and enjoying Easter with my loved-ones.

What are you doing this weekend? Are you participating in the #EASTERREADATHON? Let me know in the comments below!

MALLORY’S #12DAYSOFBOOKMAS READ-A-THON TBR

10846780_10152837584945465_1444511147_nSo as Maria mentioned in her post, this read-a-thon is taking place on Instagram. And what perfect timing for a read-a-thon! Everyone will be finishing school and work and it’ll be all read read read time! So here are the books I plan to read during this time.

1. My True Love Gave to Me by various authors. I’ve already finished one story so this shouldn’t take me very long.
2. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. Why has it taken me so long to get to this book? Super pumped for this one.
3. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Second book in the graphic novel series. These are fun and take no time at all.
4. Scott Pilgrim & the Infinite Sadness by Bryan Lee O’Malley. This is the third in the series.
5. Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins. It’s about time I am getting to this series!

Hopefully I will be able to make it through all these and more. I want to get a lot of reading done this month. But so far, I’m slacking. This read-a-thon should help me pick it up though. Let us know what you plan on reading too! And don’t forget to check out our updates on Instagram 🙂

MARIA’S #12DAYSOFBOOKMAS READATHON TBR

10846780_10152837584945465_1444511147_nThe Twelve Days of Christmas is a readathon taking place on INSTAGRAM the 12th to the 23rd of december. The lovely hosts are listed on the picture if you would like to check them out.

I really like that this readathon is going to be twelve days long. It will be a great way to get a few extra books read before the new year (it’s going to be here before we know it!) Plus, I love BOOKSTAGRAM, so I am looking forward to taking some fun christmas book photos and sharing my updates with you on there. Since this is being hosted on Instagram, I won’t be doing daily blog readathon updates here, but you can check out our Instagram if you would like to know how I am doing.

This is what I plan on reading until the 23rd:
Screen Shot 2014-12-11 at 8.53.50 AM

1. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer (finish)
2. My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories (various authors)
3. Maybe not by Colleen Hoover
4. Dash and Lily’s book of dares by Cohn and Levithan
5. Written in Red by Anne Bishop

If some sort of Christmas miracle happens and I finish all five of those books, I will possibly pick up an other Christmas themed book. It will be busy for me with exams until the 16th, but when those are over with I will read read read as much as I can until the 23rd! Goodluck to all participants! If you are taking part in this readathon, let me know what you plan on reading in the comments below!

MARIA’S WONDERFULLY WICKED READ-A-THON WRAP-UP

readathonAs you may know, Mallory and I had participated in the Wonderfully Wicked Read-A-Thon hosted by Bex at Kindle Fever and April at My Shelf Confessions. It had started on October 17th and finished on October 27th. It has been a busy week, but I am happy with the books that I had managed to finish. Below are the books that I had completed, my rating and mini review.

Total of books finished: 4

Page count: 808 pages

Favorite book: The Merciless by Danielle Vega

1. Soppy : A Love Story by Phillipa Rice (provided by Netgalley) ★★★★★

21535713

Soppy is an adorable collection of illustrations based on Philippa Rice’s relationship with her boyfriend. I loved this so much because it was so realistic. You can relate to the characters. The comics make you realize that in a relationship, it is really important to appreciate the little things. I recommend this to those who enjoy a cute romance – give this graphic novel a try! Well worth the read!

2. The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski ★★★★

337907

This was the biggest and most intimidating book on my October TBR. I had started it before the read-a-thon began, but I am so proud to have finished it. This book is told in two main parts. The first tells the story of Johnny Truant, a young man working in a tattoo shop. The second part is the manuscript that Johnny had found. A manuscript that has the power to mess with your mind. I will review this book in more detail in an upcoming blogpost. For now, all I will say is that I had become almost as obsessed as Johnny had with the House of Leaves. While reading this book, it was extremely hard to think of anything else. Unlike anything I have ever read (or even heard of), I really enjoyed this complex piece of literature and plan on re-reading it someday in the future.

3. Ed Undead: The Chronicles of a Teenage Zombie by Edward Kent (provided by Netgalley) ★★★

19489924

Ed is on his own. When the zombies took over, he had lost everything: his parents, his schoolmates, the girl he loved… And he too had caught the disease. But why wasn’t he turning into a full fledged zombie? This book follows Ed’s journey, as he does his best to survive in such a messed up world and meets up with people along the way. I really did enjoy this book. It was a light, fun, halloween read. If you like to read about zombies, you should give this one a try!

4. The Merciless by Danielle Vega ★★★★★

18667769

This is the story of some very messed up girls. Don’t take that lightly. When Sofia moves to a new town and starts a new school, she becomes friends with the “popular girls” (yes, just like our beloved movie “mean girls”) but she also becomes friends with the “weird girl”, Brooklyn. I don’t want to give too much away. It really is better not knowing. Just know that when you start this, you will not want to put it down – no matter how scary or gross it gets. I couldn’t sleep after finishing!

Comment below to let me know what you accomplished during this read-a-thon and your thoughts on these wonderful books 🙂
